The spirits and wine label specialist has installed a QuadTech Color Control System with SpectralCam.

Imprimerie Bidoit is now offering customers improved print quality and automated color control across a variety of label substrates following the installation of QuadTech’s Color Control System with SpectralCam. The QuadTech technology enables them to benefit from considerable time and waste reductions, resulting in better profitability. Based in Cognac, southwest of France, Imprimerie Bidoit specialize in providing first-class labels to a variety of large French Cognac and wine houses. Owned by the Inessens Group; one of France’s top three printing groups in the wine and spirits labelling industry, the company works with some of the industry’s biggest names such as Hennessy and Rémy Martin, as well as all the wine regions across France. Inessens Group first contacted QuadTech at the end of 2014 as they pursued solutions to help them achieve regular and more efficient color control as part of a Gallus press they were looking to acquire at the time. They were experiencing high levels of waste due to off-line color control as well as lengthy delays, due to the manual process of checking live print samples from the print run by hand. “We are delighted with the new QuadTech systems,” comments Sébastien Garaboeuf, Director of the Bidoit factory. “Now our colors are consistent from the beginning to end of the print run. We are achieving higher quality with less waste on a variety of labels and substrates. Our operators can now record the parameters of color requirements and save time for the next run, this has been particularly useful when working with short run jobs, removing the need to re-set colors. Not only has this automation given us advantage over the competition, but it shows customers and new prospects that we are a company committed to absolute color consistency.” The introduction of QuadTech automation has already resulted in around 15% of time savings during the makeready stage at Imprimerie Bidoit. QuadTech’s Color Control System with SpectralCam compares color accuracy to desired targets – inline, during the print run – and detects any variation. If any problems are found, the system automatically corrects the problem without the need for operator intervention. The SpectralCam camera uses 31-bin spectrophotometer technology to measure spectral response and calculates accurate L*a*b*, ΔE and ΔDensity values at maximum press speeds. Inessens now has QuadTech’s Color Control Systems installed on five of the presses at their Cognac site comprising of three Gallus and two Nilpeter presses and will also install the same solution on their latest Gallus press which is due for delivery in Q3 of this year. In addition, the same QuadTech solutions are installed on five other presses at the Imprimerie Roy plant based in Chassagne Montrachet. Kris Desmet, regional sales manager, QuadTech, comments, “We are very pleased that the Inessens Group continues to choose QuadTech to help improve their business operations. With brands demanding ever better quality print and improved color consistency throughout the print run, we’re delighted that our technology is helping to achieve these goals and giving businesses like Imprimerie Bidoit a much better advantage in an already competitive industry.”
